Pokémon Sun and Moon

So, I decided to buy Pokemon Sun after all.

pokemon_sun_moon

I happened to be down at Melbourne Central for unrelated reasons at around 5:20pm on Friday, 18th November. As suspected, Big W had no stock when I meandered in there so late, and they didn't even put a sold out sign out. EB Games had a line snaking out the door, but they price matched Big W for $46. I hope the staff there got paid overtime, because they looked pretty weary.

As usual, here's a brief review of my experience. Please refrain from reading if you have not yet finished the game and still wish to be surprised.

Free Pokémon Gym Badge Sets: Spring 2014

Send in your glorious art for a chance to win some free Gym Badges! :3
Hint: I like pretty artwork about as much as I like witty or random art, so don't feel bad if you're not a sketch artist! Also, I will accept artwork of Kora Cat should you not feel up to drawing Pokémon. Hey, why not draw both?

Pokémon: Top Additions In Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald

As you may have heard, it has been announced that the Gen 3 Pokémon games will be remade for the 3DS. Yes, all those hints about Hoenn in X/Y were truly leading up to these remakes which we had been hoping for. This obviously calls for me to revisit my beloved Emerald games and list the top improvements Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald brought to the Pokémon table.

Although my all time favourite Pokémon game is actually Crystal, Gen 3 provided a lot more visual appeal, depth and random fun stuff to do. Therefore as a result, I clocked well over 400 hours on my original Emerald game compared to about 250 hours for Crystal. Below are some reasons why.

Pokémon X and Y: Guide to Time Machine Breeding

Are you tired of trying to hatch high IV Pokémon from lower IV parents? Are you breeding 5IV Pokémon with the wrong stat always being passed down? Well, have no fear! Now you can go back in time and see into the future of offspring inheritance.

New Pokémon Anime: Origins

I have high hopes for this new animated series. I know I probably shouldn't, because modern Pokémon is not what it used to be. And yet I still hope. Tragically, it seems to be a once-off TV special only with just 4 episodes.

Pokémon: Top Episodes

With the impending news of another new generation of Pokémon, it's that time once again where I need to go back and remind myself just where it all began.

I have been watching the original dubbed anime since about 1997-1998, although I don't particularly have any single favourite episode. They all have their unique moments and themes, but here is a list of some of my top episodes from each season I watched.

Game Reviews: Pokémon Conquest (DS)

Ah, Pokemon spinoff games. I recently picked up Pokemon Conquest a week ago, intrigued by the various positive reviews on it I read online.

This game is a simplified mix between Fire Emblem, Dungeon Dice Monsters and Civilization. The result is a terribly addictive and unusual Pokemon experience.

In fact, Pokemon Conquest reminds me of this obscure domain.com.au billboard located near Flinders Street station:

“YOU’RE NOT A HOME BUYER. YOU’RE A WARLORD IN A BATTLE FOR TERRITORY.”

(My phone camera is sucky.)

It took the basic idea of a role-playing strategy game and turned it into something exciting and new. Or, at least new to the Pokemon franchise.

Collection Completion

Yes! I actually do have a good reason for not posting this month:

Since I recently crossed off nearly every item on my wishlist, I've been updating my collection site with pretty photos.

It has been a fantastic journey. I've met some wonderful fellow collectors and cat owners.
And so, as I descend slowly into retirement, I would very much like to share a part of my collection with you.

***
- A List of Favourite Collection Items -

Some of you may recognise the merchandise pictured here, while others may not. Let me just assure you that acquiring these particular items was no easy task. :>

#1. Clear Kids (Eevee Evolution Set)

These five clear Kids are the main focus of my collection. I finally have all of them together, which is kind of a big deal to most Eevee evolution collectors. I can take spiffy photos of them now for all to admire. ^^

- Vaporeon, Jolteon, Espeon, Leafeon and Glaceon were won via YJ auctions
- Umbreon was purchased from the pkmncollectors community, via auction
- Flareon was won as part of a GA hosted on the pkmncollectors community

~~~
#2. Amada Stickers (Eevee Evolution Set)
Japanese flat stickers, all showing various new art.
- All were won via YJ auctions
~~~
#3. Pokedoll Bubble Stickers (Eevee Evolution Set)

- Purchased from the pkmncollectors community

~~~
#4. Minicots (Eevee Evolution Set)
Special Items
#1. Espeon V-Trainer
This figure was a gift from a very kind GA host. The Chikorita keychain I won as part of the GA was abducted by cats, but it was eventually returned safely. Espeon was initially offered to me as a replacement. :3
~~~
#2. Charizard and Vulpix Grabber Figures

These figures were from a Japanese seller. I won Vulpix through a YJ auction, and Charizard was sent as a gift along with a friendly note. :D

~~~~~
I would like to thank everyone who made this collection possible, especially the pkmncollectors community and all the middleman-service friendly sellers at YJ auctions.
Further Thanks:
^ To the lady who picked up my passport and immediately returned it to me at Southern Cross station
^ To the good citizen who handed my untouched bag in at Laverton station
Pokémon on Gameboid
Remember when you used to obsessively play Pokémon on Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance? Back when you had all the time in the world to just sit in your rocking chair and hatch the same egg a hundred times until you got a Pokémon with high IVs? Yup, those were good times.
Then came a glorious thing called the Internet, and suddenly we all had free emulators and roms. But most importantly, we got access to the information and tools to make our Pokémon stronger.
Card Game Lists
The year is drawing to a close, and the Christmas season is almost upon us once more. For me, this holiday marks an important tradition (which I shall entitle ‘Screw the Rules, I Have Money’ Month from this day forth). In other words, it’s time to splurge on boxes of stuff you never knew you needed until just a moment ago. Or, in my case... even more boxes of stuff than usual.
This year, I have decided to expand my collection of trading cards.
Pokémon: A Lazy Tally
Now, let’s count all the dodgy looking Pokémon that were ever designed! ^^
Pokémon: Ways to Win
You may have gathered by now that I played the Pokémon games quite a lot in my day. However, I am not a competitive battler so I don’t fight actual players. With that in mind, here are some methods on how to do well at the Battle Frontier in-game.
About Pokémon
Today, I am going to discuss something that I feel is very important – I am going to be educating you about Pokémon. I know most people believe it is a children’s franchise, and while that is partially true, it concerns me that so many fail to see the whole picture. To call Pokémon a child’s game and to look down upon those who enjoy it, you must understand what the franchise consists of entirely; otherwise you are simply proving your own ignorance.
