CatsWall: Modular Cat Shelves<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Have you ever looked at your empty walls and thought, 'What can I do to turn this wasted space into free real estate?' If you're someone who lives in a small house or apartment, but also still has cats to share that small space with, these shelves might be the answer you've been searching for.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">So there is a modular shelving system made for cats created by <a href="https://www.catswall.com.tw/" style="background-color: transparent; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">CatsWall Design<span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"> in Taiwan. I have been eyeing this <a href="https://www.facebook.com/CatswallDesign/" style="background-color: transparent; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">CatsWall<span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"> shelving for years, but couldn't import it due to the high cost of international shipping. But recently I found out that they now have a domestic distributor - still very expensive, but at least it was possible to get it delivered locally.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Firstly, this is <span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">probably <span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">the kind of thing only a crazy... I mean serious... cat enthusiast would purchase. It's a bit like wanting to buy a luxury car, even though you could get a much uglier, cheaper car with less features for far less cost. But sometimes you see something shiny, and you just have to try it. The Catswall is one of those things.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I suggest you consider all of the following before splurging on the CatsWall:
<span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Pros
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">1. Expand territory for cats
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">2. Make use of empty wall space
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">3. Can change layout of shelves and boxes
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">4. Allow older cats to move vertically easier
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">5. May keep cats off you and your desk
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">6. Can get custom wall sizes
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Cons
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">1. Cats might not use it
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">2. May make the room look cluttered or not match decor
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">3. Very expensive and could use generic fixed shelving
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">4. DIY or handyman required to install at extra cost
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">5. Will require drilling holes into your wall
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Here is my full review of the CatsWall modular shelving. I will include photos of the <span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">installation and the end result below.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Before you go and request a quote, decide which wall you want this CatWall to go up on, and measure the available space you have to install it. If you already have other furniture up against the wall, such as a desk or sofa, you only need the CatWall to go above the existing furniture for the cats to access it.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">In my case, I ended up with this:
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Wall 1: 180cm wide x 91cm tall
<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"> 3 x Cat Boxes
<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"> 2 x Large perches
<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"> 2 x Medium perches
<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"> 2 x Small perches
<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"> 7 x 60cm aluminium slats (7 x 12cm = 84cm tall)
<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"> 7 x 120cm aluminium slats (7 x 12cm = 84cm tall)
<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">60cm + 120cm = 180cm
<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"> Coloured vinyl: Blue
<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"> All screws and caps with the wall.

<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Total inc GST and delivery = AUD $1500.00
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Wall 2: 100cm wide x 143cm tall
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"> 2 x Cat Boxes
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"> 2 x Large perches
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"> 2 x Medium perches
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"> 2 x Small perches
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"> 9 x 60cm aluminium slats (9 x 12cm = 108 cm tall)
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"> 9 x 40cm aluminium slats (9 x 12cm = 108 cm tall)
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">60cm + 40cm = 100cm
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"> Coloured vinyl - White
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"> All screws and caps with the wall.

<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Total inc GST and delivery = AUD $1142.93
<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">So here's an important detail you need to know about installing these CatWalls. They require a piece of formply to be cut to the same size as your shelving and then pre-screwed into your wall. You will have to find the studs in your wall, go out and buy the 17mm thick formply, transport the formply back home, and then drill it into your wall before you can begin to install the CatWall itself. Everything comes as a flat pack, so you'll have to assemble the cat boxes yourself as well.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Our local hardware store had a helpful sign up to let everyone know that they don't cut formply. This meant that we could not fit the larger sized piece of formply into the car, unless we dragged it out into the parking lot and sawed it in half there.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Also, there was something very strange about the larger wall which I had planned on installing the CatWall. The studs couldn't be located with a stud finder, and for some peculiar reason they weren't straight. This meant that the formply had to go up in one big piece. So after a bunch of drilling by several different people, we finally got the larger piece of formply installed. It ended up being a lot more trouble than anticipated.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">But the smaller CatWall went up fine, no outside assistance required. It was significantly smaller than the stock image would have led you to believe, so a lot of the shelves we got ended up being redundant, unless we decide to replace the boxes with them.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Once the initial formply backing is installed, the actual installation of the CatWall onto the formply is quite easy. You start by screwing the bottom row of aluminium slats in first, making sure they are as level as possible. Then all the other <span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">aluminium <span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">slats sit nicely on top of the first row, and so are very simple to screw in. You can drill one screw in per aluminium slat to fix it in place, while you keep stacking up the rows to see if the entire thing looks level before drilling in all of the screws.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">The different lengths of aluminium slats are supposed to be staggered with each row, so alternate slat lengths are next to one another, but we didn't notice that part of the instruction manual until after we put up the first wall. Oops. It didn't make much difference to the end result, though.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">After all the aluminium slats go up, you should probably try and tap in all the white plastic end caps. You might need a hammer to get these caps in. If you try to do this last, you risk damaging the ends of the colored vinyl tape.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">With the CatWall installed, the finishing touch is sticking on the colored vinyl tape. The tough part of this is cutting it at the correct length once you get to the edge of the wall.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">You want the end of the tape to be slightly overlapping the white end cap, so the silver aluminium underneath is not exposed. Oddly, the thin blue tape we received was pre-cut shorter than the length of the wall, and I had to stick on a separate piece to cover the rest of the required length.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">There are instructions on how to put together the cat boxes, and I suggest not tapping in the little wood cork stoppers until you're absolutely sure you've assembled all the pieces correctly. Otherwise, it will be hard to get them out to unscrew the pieces. If you really have to get the <span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">cork stoppers out, you can drill a small screw into the middle of each one and pull them out. But ideally you don't want to do that, as it's a pain and very time consuming. The completed cat boxes are very smooth and sleek looking, they are my favorite part of the CatWall system.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Finally, you can place the shelves and cat boxes onto your CatWall. This is where the modular feature of this system comes in. If for some reason your cat is having trouble getting around your current shelf configuration, you can easily tilt each component up off the aluminium track and change the position.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">But will your cat actually use this CatWall? So far I've had them up for about a week and one cat uses the smaller CatWall as somewhere private to eat. The larger CatWall is mostly used as a staircase to get up and down from the cupboard. The cats are not very trusting of the smallest shelf, as it has a bit of movement when they step onto it. I will be putting cushions into the boxes to encourage them to sit in those more, but for the moment they are mainly being used as steps. If they end up not using them, I can still use them for plant display and storage.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">So would I recommend the CatWall? Well, if you really like the look and design of the CatWall, it could be worth the high cost. But if you don't mind settling for some fixed shelves from Ikea, that would be a much cheaper option, especially if your cat doesn't enjoy climbing. Although, most cats I've met generally choose to sit in the highest spot they can find, preferably next to a sunny window.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">If you live in a small home with a free wall, this will provide your cat with extra territory without sacrificing valuable floor space. If you have a large empty wall, I would recommend installing a larger CatWall, as this can turn that vertical space into a huge cat playground and encourage exercise. Even if your cat isn't too interested in it, the CatWall still provides custom storage options that can also double as cat stairs.C.Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00900888451650387736noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-43720781179208460.post-83370357155753475682020-02-29T15:54:00.000+11:002020-03-07T21:23:42.432+11:00Snapshots: February 2020C.Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00900888451650387736noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-43720781179208460.post-12745874461744380912020-01-02T20:41:00.000+11:002020-01-11T22:02:10.373+11:00Snapshots: December 2019C.Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00900888451650387736noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-43720781179208460.post-51606877250073433212019-11-16T19:46:00.001+11:002020-03-06T00:02:26.259+11:00Dear Australia Post<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I know you can do your job. Sometimes International Air Mail bound for the USA arrives in mere days from our isolated island country. <span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">A few years ago, I threw a letter bound for the USA into one of your red post boxes, and it got there in 2 days. I was astounded. It was like being witness to a miracle. It was at that point I knew. I could create anything and ship it anywhere. It would be glorious.

<span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Well, except for a few little issues. Anything I made had to be under 2cm thick and weigh in within the 50-100g range, to be classed as a letter, or else the international shipping costs would be too steep. And if stuff didn't turn up on time, you would never know what happened to it.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I see how it is. International letters are cheap to send and so you don't have any records of them or the willpower to go and find them. Tracking services cost a mint, but at least they arrive faster and you can locate them, right? So surely Express would be like buying your mail a first class ticket on a luxury jet, yes? As it turns out, nope.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I carefully packed this letter and sent it by your insanely expensive 3-4 business day Express service.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">It didn't move from our airport for 9 days. I sent a written enquiry, but nobody would tell us why. The Tracking tool just didn't update.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I only found out what actually happened to it after some tattered remains appeared at my door randomly. You ran over it with a vehicle. And didn't notify anyone about it.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">The Tracking still hasn't updated correctly. I've fixed it for you, so now you know what it should have read.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">The worst part of this whole experience was that you made me second guess myself for an entire month. Had I put the wrong address labels on? Was there something wrong with the online customs form? Did the text on my labels fade? Did the guy I lodged it with at the Post Office mess it up? I'm sure this is the sort of psychological warfare which eventually turns people insane.
<span style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; white-space: pre-wrap;">

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; white-space: pre-wrap;">I know you have a monopoly on the postal system in Australia, and you won't answer to anyone. But please, don't run over mail and then pretend nothing happened. Maybe just don't run over mail at all. That would be nice, if you could do that. Then I wouldn't have to waste my time writing junk like this, and instead go back to doing something more productive. Thank you.
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; white-space: pre-wrap;">

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; white-space: pre-wrap;">***
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: x-small; white-space: pre-wrap;">Mistakes which were made:
1. Referring missing mailer to 'International team' with a long estimated response time. The article hadn't even left our country yet.
2. Not notifying anyone that the mailer was actually either a) run over and wedged under a van tyre, b) had an anvil dropped on it or c) torn apart by ravenous rabid wombats. Maybe all three. Simultaneously.
3. Not notifying us that the mailer was mangled beyond recognition.
4. Listing a 1800 number to call on the online tracking tool status, instead of 'CRUSHED BY AUSPOST VAN' in bold red letters.
5. Doing nothing for a month. It's an international Express order AusPost charged an outrageous amount to lodge.
6. Upon calling the 1800 number, not actually being able to tell me what state the article was in, whether it was going to be mailed to the recipient, or if we had to refund the buyer's money. I still had no idea what was wrong with it or why it had been sitting there for a month. And also AusPost did not call back later that day as stated to explain anything.
7. The mangled article turned up the next day after the phone call I made, at my doorstep without explanation. The buyer was still expecting it, and I was still expecting it to be delivered.
8. AusPost claimed only the outside packaging was damaged. It had been crushed by a vehicle tyre, so even the welded metal inside had all warped or broken. We put two address labels on both sides of the mailer in case of damage, but both sides of the mailer were missing.
9. Not updating the online enquiry until I waited until the day of their International response deadline to ask about the article's whereabouts. It was only updated after I received the mangled corpse of the mailer suddenly at my door, and after I wrote to them about how defeated I felt living in an isolated country with a monopolised postal system (Australia).
10. Not giving any responses in writing. I can't answer the phone if I'm working. Or asleep. Or sick.
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: x-small; white-space: pre-wrap;">Due to continued incompetence courtesy of AusPost, (namely having several Express and Tracking articles going missing since this incident and being unable to find out if they are damaged or just temporarily misplaced) we are no longer making any more new creations so we can limit our dealings with them. They are never going to get better and have no accountability, so it's probably for the best.
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: x-small; white-space: pre-wrap;">Edit : 5/03/2020
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: x-small; white-space: pre-wrap;">So losing things is such a regular occurrence now, that we had to write a FAQ about what to do when the tracking stops updating after 3 days. AusPost also refuse to compensate properly for lost parcel contents, they will only pay for 'materials' or 'wholesale prices'. So you lose even if you pay for extra insurance, which you should never do, because that only encourages their behaviour by giving them more money for stealing from you. I'm really sorry for anyone who has been affected by their poor service, I wish I could do more to stop this. But we have already gone to the Postal Ombudsman twice, and they are of absolutely no use because AusPost is a government backed monopoly here.C.Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00900888451650387736noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-43720781179208460.post-25490372840231550942019-11-02T22:30:00.003+11:002019-11-04T10:45:00.156+11:00Cat Proof Yard Fences<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">We had this problem, where 4 cats were having a turf war over who owns our backyard.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">There was one neighbour's feral cat in particular which just hated all other cats for some reason, and would fight viciously with every one in sight as soon as she was let out. Unfortunately, one of our cats seems to enjoy the adrenaline rush of facing an opponent. <span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">So it was not a good combination to have these two cats outside near each other.

<span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">It also didn't help that one of our cats liked to taunt other cats by parading herself as fight bait outside our back door. The opposing rival cat would see her and be lured across the back fence and attack, and then we would have to run out and break up the resulting fight before it escalated.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">The options we had for protecting both cats were as follows:
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">1) Keep one or both cats inside.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">- Both cats would go mad, and complain all day about not being allowed out.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">- Somebody is going to slip up eventually and a cat is going to run out.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">- No point living in a house with a yard because you have pets, if they can't even use the yard.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">2) Cat proof the fences.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">- Very difficult to achieve, as cats are master escape artists.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">- May look unsightly, don't want your property looking like a prison yard.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">3) Council involvement.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">- Difficult to bait the offending neighbour cat
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">- Great way to make a mortal enemy in your neighbours
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">4) Eviction.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">- Only works if your neighbour is a tenant
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">- Another fine<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"> way to make a mortal enemy in your neighbours
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">5) Deterrents.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">- Cats quickly get used to stuff like water spray, essential oils, spices, Vaseline and just ignore it. Possibly see more success with pine cones or sticky strips, but didn't have any.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">- Cats can jump over or dodge stuff easily.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I initially thought about stapling chicken wire over the tops of the fences at a 90 degree angle onto metal brackets. But we have trees in the yard, and this would be very difficult to install onto crappy leaning wood. And anything sharp protruding from the fence catches wind and looks really terrible. It's also a pain to take down or repair if you need to.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">So then I tried slathering the fence tops with Vick's VapoRub and Vaseline, creating a sticky coating for applying pepper and cinnamon powder. Cat got used to it all in a few days and ignored everything. I'm not sure how well essential oils (Lavender) did, but it probably didn't do a whole lot.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">The solution was to cap the tops of our fences with 50mm diameter PVC pipe. Just cut a 30-35mm wide slit in the pipe length-ways so you have a long C, and slot the pipe over the fence tops. Now the cats can no longer grip the wooden fence tops with their claws to pull their body weight up and over into our backyard. If they do manage to jump in by climbing an overhanging tree, the cat risks being trapped in the yard, and is too scared to return. This will also prevent your cats from leaving your yard to seek out a fight or moving car.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">We also installed security cameras to record any yard activity to make sure there weren't secret spy cats sneaking in at night. I recommend buying the cheap Wyze ones you get from Amazon USA (if you don't live in the US), as they work decently for monitoring pet activity.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Are PVC pipe capped fences 100% cat proof? Well, we have seen one or two cats leap over the fence without thinking, only to get cornered in the yard and get stared at by strange humans. This spooks them enough that we haven't seen the same cat twice after some intense up close staring, you don't even seem to have to spray them with water or anything. I think this method destroys their confidence by forcing them to use their fearful imagination to predict what you might do if you actually catch them next time. The fence capping also cuts off many possible escape routes. No more cat attacks so far since the PVC pipe caps went on, so that's good enough for me.
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Free-to-play tacticians, here's how I cleared the Hrid maps. This is a really difficult map on Abyssal, unless you have Gale Force shenanigans at your disposal.
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">You'll probably want to equip all the required Skills and Seals before you begin. Remember to write down which Seals and C Slot skills you want to try out on your Dancers, as you may need to adjust them. The skills in red text below are flexible depending on your own units.

<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I should mention that since I'm F2P, most of my resources have gone into cavalry, namely The Reinhardt and City Mongolian Bow Lyn. I highly recommend that you do the same. On the other hand, I also spent 820 F2P orbs to +10 Sigurd on his focus banner recently, and ironically he wasn't much help on these two maps. Even with maxed out Summoner Support. Nope, you need to use The Reinhardt + Bow Lyn + Two Dancers like you always do.
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><span style="color: #444444; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">This solution uses the tried and true, always reliable The Reinhardt + Bow Lyn + Two Dancers formula.

<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">Although the Summoner in this video strategy seems to be using double Attack Tactics plus two other Tactics Seals, I was too poor to do this. So instead, I just slapped a Spur Attack and Drive Attack on my Dancers.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">And it should all go smoothly, until Bow Lyn tries to hit this Blue Manakete. The Summoner in the video has his Bow Lyn at 12 HP after this fight. But, my Bow Lyn is -RES, and only barely survived with a measly 7 HP. This will become a problem later.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">Later, when our Bow Lyn attempts to assassinate this Blue Manakete, she may not have enough HP or defenses to live the second engagement. The Blue Manakete needs to die this turn or earlier, so it would help if you were able to chip off more of her HP in the first engagement. This is where you really need the correct Seals or C Slot skills to save your Bow Lyn.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">Now that most of the dangerous enemies are dead, a new problem arises. Our Bow Lyn only has 7 HP, and is vulnerable to dying if struck by the enemy Healer. Since the previously mentioned annoying Blue Manakete is now deceased, The Reinhardt is perfectly capable of murdering both the Bow Cavalier and the Axe Flier himself. This allows our weakened Bow Lyn (and Flying Azura) to hide in the corner of the map, out of the enemy Healer's strike range.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">We're nearly home free now. Murder the enemy Healer, while keeping your units out of the Lance Cavalier's stabbing range. Then bunch everyone up to gain all the buffs, and gang up on the Lance Cavalier before he can hit anyone. Congratulations, you've won a gold colored hair pin thing! Totally worth the hours of internal screaming, yeah?
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">If your Reinhardt and Bow Lyn aren't merged, there's also this similar guide:
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">Note: PM1 has solutions for this Map too, but the Abyssal map uses a Pain+ Lucius. I tried substituting in my Pain+ Priscilla, but that didn't work out as planned. So, back to old reliable The Reinhardt I went.
<span style="color: blue; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">Infernal Map

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">This F2P solution worked perfectly for me, and used minimal resources.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">Alternatively, you could also use a Brave Bow + 3 Dancers combo, or repeat the Abyssal strategy above.
