Pokémon X and Y: Guide to Time Machine Breeding

Are you tired of trying to hatch high IV Pokémon from lower IV parents? Are you breeding 5IV Pokémon with the wrong stat always being passed down? Well, have no fear! Now you can go back in time and see into the future of offspring inheritance.

PHASE 1: Scouting

1. Take two scout Pokémon as a breeding pair with no overlapping IVs between them.
I recommend using Magikarp or Gyarados as the mother for fast hatch times.
Note: Inheritance will be different for one gender only Pokémon. If I wanted to breed a 5IV Chansey (female only), I need to use Petilil (female only) and Ditto as parents to show the inheritance pattern correctly.

2. Attach Destiny Knot to one, and save the game at the Daycare.

3. Fly to the Judge in Kiloude, and show him your two scouts.

4. Get a piece of paper and take note of any extreme IVs – 31 or 0.

5. Fly to the north area of Lumiose City and go to the Battle Institute.
Make sure you have three Pokémon you can enter in the Single Battle mode.

6. Write down the stats of your two scouts at Level 50.

7. Input the stat values into an IV Calculator. I am using Veekun’s version.

8. Write down the IVs of your two scouts.

9. Turn off your game.

PHASE 2: Egg Generation

1. Put your two scout Pokémon into the Daycare.

2. Ride your bike on Route 7 until the Daycare Man has an Egg.

3. Reject that first Egg.
Note: Rejecting this first Egg appears to be an optional step. You may choose to save the game right after placing your Pokémon in the Daycare instead.

4. Immediately save your game.

5. Ride your bike on Route 7 until the Daycare Man has another Egg.

6. Accept that second Egg.

7. Fly to the center of Lumiose City and ride your bike onto the circular Centrico Plaza.
Put a Pokémon with Flame Body in your first slot. I recommend Talonflame as it also has Fly.
Activate Egg Hatching Power if you have it.

8. Hold down the left control until the Egg hatches.

9. Fly to the Judge in Kiloude, and show him your new baby.

10. Get a piece of paper and take note of any extreme IVs – 31 or 0. Also write down the Nature, Ability, Gender and Characteristic of your new baby.

11. Fly to the north area of Lumiose City and go to the Battle Institute.
Make sure you have three Pokémon you can enter in the Single Battle mode.

12. Write down the stats of your new baby at Level 50.

13. Turn off your game.

14. Input the stat values into an IV Calculator. I am using Veekun’s version.

15. Write down the IVs of your new baby.

16. Match the IVs from the baby back to the two parents. This will show you which 5 stats were inherited from which of the two Pokémon, and which stat is the random ‘Wild Card’.

PHASE 3: Choosing New Parents

1A. If you like the pattern of inheritance and the Wild Card, go into the Daycare and take back your two scouts.
Don’t forget to take Destiny Knot off your scout.
You are now free to save your game if you wish.

1B. If you do not like the pattern of inheritance and the Wild Card, go to Phase 4.

2. Find or trade for two different suitable Pokémon to serve as the new parents.

For example:
If HP, Attack and Defense were inherited from the father scout, choose a new father which has 31 IVs in these stats.
If Sp. Attack and Sp. Defense were inherited from the mother scout, choose a new mother which has 31 IVs in these stats.
Speed would be the Wild Card in this case, and you already know what IV this will be from your scout baby.
Note that the Nature, Gender and Ability are fixed already. These will be the same as what your scout baby had, unless you use Everstone to fix the Nature of your new parent.

3. Attach Destiny Knot to one parent.
You may also want to attach Everstone to the other if you want to keep the Nature.

4. Put your two new parent Pokémon into the Daycare.

5. Ride your bike on Route 7 until the Daycare Man has an Egg.

6. Accept that Egg.

7. Fly to the center of Lumiose City and ride your bike onto the Centrico Plaza.

10. Your new baby should have inherited the perfect 31 IV stats of your new parents in the same inheritance pattern as your scouts.

11. Enjoy the new flawless 5IV Pokémon of your choice!

PHASE 4: Egg Reset

1. Ride your bike on Route 7 until the Daycare Man has an Egg.

2. Reject that Egg.

3. Immediately save your game.

4. Ride your bike on Route 7 until the Daycare Man has another Egg.

5. Accept the new Egg. This Egg will have a different and new pattern of inheritance for you to test.

6. Go back to Step 7 of Phase 2 and continue.

  3. Note that it is easier to calculate the IVs if the pokemon has no EVs.
